Here are the running depths and speed recomendations for Trophy Sticks
At 120 feet back when running on the riggers,at 2.5-3mph the 4.5's & 5.5's run about 8 feet deeper than the downrigger weight & the 6.5's will run about 11 feet deeper than the weight. When down rigging for trout we like a 100-120 foot setback with the Trophy Sticks. At 200 feet back at 2.5-3mph the 4.5's & 5.5's run about 8-9 feet deep & the 6.5's around 13 feet deep, you will lose depth the slower you go or by shortening your setback. Run the 4.5 inch sticks at 1.3 - 2.5, the 5.5 inch trophy sticks between 1.9 - 4mph & the 6.5 inch sticks between 2.0 - 4mph. For Striper the 6.5's at 100 feet back will run at that 9-10 foot desired range. Slower speeds and shorter set backs and they will run a foot or 2 shallower deepending on direction and tide speed. For trophy size trout- A lot of big fish lately have come running the 4.5's on the downrigger with an intense wobble at slower speeds like 1.2-1.8 mph. You lure has to be within 5 feet of where the fish are (where you are marking them on the finder). Work your boat in good "S" patterns but stay on track. Fish where you are marking fish. Concentrate on these areas and when they are ready to bite they will. When top lining the sticks, don't rip them as much as they have their own "hunting action" when set ata minimum wobble, (see video section for video presentation) a few jerks here and there can be good. Too much ripping, like with other stick baits and the sticks won't work as good as a few jerks here and there and working the boat and making those lures work hard. Switch it up as with your speed but always pay attention to the speed you are running at all times. Catching a big fish will definitely make you forget all the important factors on why and how you just caught that fish. When top lining the 4.5 & 5.5 inch trophy sticks stay in 15 feet of water and weave in and out of the 10-15 foot deep range. When running the 6.5's and long lining stay in 15-20 feet of water and weave in and out of 15-20 feet deep of water. I hope this helps, oh yeah don't forget your Pro Cure trophy trout gel & rainbow trout either. The UV Flash works phenominal as well. Smear this on the backbone of the sticks every 30 minutes or so. It is gel form ground up tui chubs & Rainbow Trout from Oregon & California. A main forage of big fish all along our coast, rivers and lakes..
